Students during internship
Doha: Qatar University Young Scientists Center (QUYSC) will host the Summer Research Internship Program 2022 at the Qatar University premises from May 22 to June 23, 2022. The programme offers two tracks, including outcomes directed Intensive research program, research and training.
Qatar University Young Scientists Center (QUYSC) is dedicated to the transformation of the national youth into resilient, intentional, critical, and engaged people. The center aims to empower the young generation in developing technical and communication skills and career readiness, thereby serving as a pipeline to recruit new talent into scientific and research domains.
This year, the programme organises 20 leading edge projects, capable of promoting competency development and employment readiness. The internship will witness the participation of seven research centers and four colleges. The research centers include Center For Advanced Materials (CAM), Laboratory Animal Research Center (LARC), Central Laboratories Unit (CLU), Environmental Science Center (ESC), Biomedical Research Center (BRC), Social and Economic Survey Research Institute (SESRI), and Qatar University Young Scientists Center (QUYSC) while the participating colleges are College of Dental Medicine (CDM), College of Sharia and Islamic Studies, College of Arts and Science (CAS) and College of Education (CED).
The research projects are strictly aligned with the United Nations Sustainability Development Goals (SDG4) – Quality education, thereby ensuring excellence in training and skill development. Besides, the projects also aligns with the other UN - SDGs of ensuring environment protection, quality drinking water and health, sustainable energy management etc. These projects also align to the research pillars of Qatar University. Despite the shortened summer vacation in this year, the programme is also witnessing huge student participation with around 300 students registering for the courses.
The Vice President for Research & Graduate Studies, Prof. Mariam Al Maadeed emphasizing the scope of the projects said, “Summer Research Internship Program 2022 offers projects that provides the theory to application, hands-on experience and strategic counselling that nurtures students into transformational leaders as well as acknowledging the significance of sustainable development in paving the future.”
Prof. Noora Al Thani, Director of QUYSC said: “The programme organises projects that offer contemporary, valuable and significant contributions to the sustainable development of the nation thereby encouraging students to pursue diverse opportunities to balance their academic coursework, in parallel articulate and reflect their knowledge, skills & attitudes to employers and graduate schools alike.”
