Hundreds of neighbhourhood stores in Qatar will now be able to renew their licences for a period of three years. The Cabinet yesterday approved a draft decision by the Minister of Economy and Commerce that amends some provisions of decree No. 70 of 2006 on shops located in residential areas. Under the amended draft law, licences for neighbourhood shops located in residential areas can be renewed for a period of three years from July 6, 2017.
Yesterday’s weekly cabinet meeting has given a new lease of life for these shops. Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani chaired the weekly Cabinet meeting at Emiri Diwan, yesterday.
The Cabinet yesterday also took the necessary measures to issue a draft law on regulating the connection of electricity and water, after it was briefed on the recommendations of the Advisory Council. A draft law was prepared to replace law No. 4 of 1997 on the procedures and fees for the electricity and water connection, and law No. 29 of 2008 on the works of electricity and water connection.
Cabinet nod for several MoUs
As per the provisions of draft law, Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation will establish electricity and water connections, make any changes in the connection and even disconnection of the services from the public network. Only those licensed by the Corporation can carry out any of these tasks.
Meanwhile, the Cabinet approved a draft decision of the Minister of Municipality and Environment regarding the banned plants in Qatar. Under the draft decision, plants listed in the table annexed to the decision are prohibited in Qatar.
The Cabinet also approved a draft memorandum of understanding for cooperation between Qatar Tourism Authority and Qatar National Convention Centre in business tourism, a draft air services agreement between Qatar and the Netherlands regarding Curacao, and draft MoU for cooperation in the field of technical and vocational education and training between Qatar and the Philippines.
