The number of passengers using public buses in Qatar increased by 20 percent last year, the Ministry of Transport and Communications said yesterday attributing this increase to efforts by the Ministry to improve public transport in the country. The Ministry said that it has commissioned a number of new planning and design studies to improve public transport in Qatar over the next five years.
These include the development of a new bus network plan to introduce a range of new city services and routes and new feeder routes into the Doha Metro, the design of 18 new bus stations, depots, park and ride sites, and development of an Internet portal and mobile applications for journey planning.
The changes made by the Ministry, in close coordination with Mowasalat (Karwa), include route realignments, more frequent services on some routes, enhanced bus facilities and improvements in public transport information and ticketing, the Technical Affairs Department at the Ministry said in a statement.
