Doha: Stafford Sri Lankan School Doha, entered the Qatar Cricket Association (QCA) Under-16 Schools cricket final after beating DPS Indian School in the semi-finals.
Stafford had a consistent run in this year’s championship regsitering wins against Ideal Indian School, Birla Public School and Pakistan International School in the first round.
The semi-final was a closely fought match where batting first, Stafford scored 109 runs in the 20 overs. But with amazing bowling and excellent fielding, the Stafford cricketers defended their score to get the opponents all out for 102. The Sri Lankan school displayed a complete team effort with everyone contributing. Joshua De Silva won the man-of- the-match in the semifinal for his three wickets and two catches. Manish Fernando also supported with the ball by taking three wickets.
Commenting on this win,  Kumudu Fonseka, the Chairman of the School said: “ We are proud of the way our boys played the game. Irrespective of the result, the important thing in cricket is to play the game in the proper spirit and I am happy that the Stafford team has displayed that in this tournament so far. The school emphasizes a balanced education for our children and we support sports to complement the education that the children receive,”
The Stafford team members are : Azam (Captain), Kalith, Dhanitha, Manish, Asfhq, Joshua, Ithisham, Krithik, Pasindhu, Chamath, Rahal, Shonil, Ahas, Amaar, Trishane, Shaid, Ravishka
The Sri Lankan School Cricket team is coached by Mahesh Abhayapala and assisted by Darshana, Mulafer and Susantha .
