Indian Sports Centre (ISC), an apex body under Embassy of India, Doha, will be formally launched on Qatar National Sport Day with various sports activities for the entire Indian community in different parts of Qatar .
The activities of the sports body commence with a walkathon (Walk for Sports) at Corniche by the Indian community, led by P Kumaran, Indian Ambassador to Qatar, Padmashri Zafar Iqbal, Former Captain of Indian Hockey team, along with sports celebrities from India and Qatar.
The event will see the participation of senior community leaders, Indian school students, members of Indian socio-cultural organisations and employees of various Indian companies. The walk will start from the Sheraton Park at the Corniche at 9am.
Added to this, various athletics events along with Indian traditional games like Kabaddi and Kho Kho, will be conducted for the community members including women and children, in various categories, at Doha Sports Stadium, Old Al Ghanim. An exhibition football match between India and Philippines will also be played to commemorate the launching of the sports centre at the venue.
Table tennis tournament for students and adults will be held at Qatar Table Tennis Association International Training centre. Asian Town in Industrial area will host Tug Of War for men involving Indian workers.
“The Indian Sports Centre would exclusively focus on all aspects relating to promotion of various sports activities among the Indian community across all levels and support various initiatives of our host country Qatar in connection with the FIFA 2022 World Cup and other national and international sports events in a sustained manner,” said Nilangshu Dey, President, ISC.
ISC aims to develop young Indian population in Qatar through professional coaching in various games. It will organise inter-school and inter-organisation tournaments in various games to promote a sporting spirit and environment in the community . The body will form local Indian teams in football, cricket and volleyball, etc to participate in various national tournaments being organised by sports federations of Qatar.
