DOHA: In preparation for Qatar National Sports Day festivities today, the Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee, Qatar Football Association (QFA) and Qatar Stars League (QSL) will mark the occasion with a special celebration for employees and their families.

This year’s activities are varied and multiple, ranging between football and recreational competitions, to events for children and families that will be held at the “Football Village” at Aspire’s 7th Training Pitch.

Sport is now enshrined in the 2030 National Vision after last year’s Emiri decree issued by

H H the Heir Apparent, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani that declared Qatar would have its own public holiday dedicated to sports on the second Tuesday of every February.

Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmad Al Thani, President of the QFA and President of the QSL today reaffirmed this commitment and focus in Qatar sports, stating that National Sports Day is a wonderful occasion for the exercise of sport.

“A standing committee was formed by the Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee, the QFA and the QSL to work in harmony on this day to fulfil the sporting objectives. All employees and their families have been invited to take part in the day’s events, particularly as an opportunity for all to meet each other away from the office environment,” Sheikh Hamad said.

“The Qatar football community recognises the importance of the celebration of this day because of its real impact on improving participation and we expect to see a great turnout for this celebration from all staff and their families. Our partnership with our colleagues at the Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee illustrates our unified approach and common vision to promote participation among fans in football in particular and sport in general,” he added.

“National Sports Day heralds the culture of exercise and sport in Qatar from this point forward,” he concluded.

The Secretary General of the Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee, Hassan Abdulla Al Thawadi, said: “For the second consecutive year, we are participating in National Sports Day - a day that underlines the importance of sport and its impact on the life of individuals and society.”

“The decision to allocate a day for sport in Qatar affirms the strong commitment of our country towards increasing the participation in sport, improving the lives of members of our community and ensuring healthier future for them and generations to come,” Al Thawadi said.

Al Thawadi went on to say: “Qatar enjoys an international reputation as a hub for sporting events and it will be important for us to enhance our international standing as the years commence starting with a desire to ensure higher levels of participation in sport throughout the country across all ages,” Al Thawadi added.

“We hope to usher in a new spirit of cooperation with the QFA and hope that National Sports Day helps all our employees and their families to converge and get acquainted, which is the ultimate goal of sport - to increase communication and rapprochement between peoples,” the Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee said.
