Tripoli: The United Nations welcomed the announcement of a ceasefire and a cessation of military operations by the parties in Libya.
The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), in a statement on Sunday, welcomed the truce and urged the warring parties "to strictly abide by the ceasefire and make a room for peaceful efforts to address all disputes through a Libyan-Libyan dialogue".
The UN mission expressed its full readiness to support the Libyans and to use all its capabilities to assist them in finding a peaceful and final solution to the Libyan crisis.
Turkish Presidents Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Russian Vladimir Putin, in a joint statement after their meeting in Istanbul last Wednesday, called for a ceasefire in Libya that starts at midnight on Sunday.
The internationally-recognized Government of National Accord (GNA), the Supreme State Council (representative adviser) and the Libyan Parliament in the capital Tripoli announced their welcome to the call for a ceasefire and the search for a diplomatic solution to end the crisis.

The forces belonging to the retired Major General Khalifa Haftar launched on April 4 an attack to control Tripoli. The escalation of the battles raised recently with the announcement of Haftar on last December 12 to launch a new attack on the Libyan capital.
