Doha, Qatar: The School of Economics, Administration and Public Policy (SEAPP) at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies organized a scientific trip to Geneva in Switzerland for the third cohort of the Executive Master’s Program in Diplomatic Studies and International Cooperation from the 9th to the 13th of October 2023.
During the visit, the students will be introduced to the work environment and methods of international organizations, including: (the United Nations, Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, the World Health Organization, the International Labor Organization, the World Intellectual Property Organization and others).
The students will also closely examine the nature of the interaction that takes place within these organizations between member states and the way international relations and interests are managed.
During the visit, they will learn about the work of the Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar to the United Nations in Geneva and their experiences in cooperating with international organizations.
The delegation is jointly headed, from the DI side, by Ms. Eman Al-Sulaiti, Executive Director of the Administrative and Financial Division in the DI and Dr Mawan Qeblan, Head of the Diplomatic Studies and International Cooperation Program. And from the side of the Diplomatic Institute, HE Dr AbdulAziz Al-Horr, Director of the Diplomatic Institute in the Ministry of the Foreign Affairs of Qatar.
Ms Eman Alsulaiti pointed out the significance of this trip as a link between the academic and the practical aspects. The trip, she added, will help the students enhance their skills, expand their knowledge in the field, and get familiar with the successful practices of international organizations.
HE Dr. AbdulAziz Al-Horr valued this trip of the Program students who are diplomats and officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He explained the importance of such educational trips in opening up new horizons to the students allowing them access to best practices, international experiences and direct interaction with decision makers in major influential institutions worldwide.
Dr. Marwan Qablan stressed that after this trip, the students will have fulfilled the program’s learning outcomes by deepening their knowledge and experiences in the field of specialization, by closely approaching practical reality, after relying on a solid theoretical foundation.
On the first day of the trip, the students visited the Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar to the United Nations in Geneva, and they met with HE Dr. Hend AlMuftah, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, and Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations Office at Geneva and other international organizations in Switzerland.
The delegate learned about the nature of the work of the Permanent Mission, Its tasks, achievements, and its role in times of crises.
They also visited the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and attended a lecture given by HE Mohammed AlNosor, Director of the Middle East and North Africa division of the High Commissioner for Human Rights Office, on the history of the Commission, its main areas of interest, and the challenges it faces.
The lecture was interactive with great participation from the students through questions and enriching comments.
