Doha, Qatar: The Center for Empowerment and Care of the Elderly (Ehsan) has opened the expansion of its Ehsan Al Wakrah Day Club at the Old Al Wakrah Souq, coinciding with the launch of the new season of Ehsan’s day clubs for older women.
The expansion is part of the centre’s ongoing efforts to develop and enhance the services and programmes provided to older people, while creating a more diverse, comfortable and supportive social environment that meets their needs and aspirations.
The expansion comes in response to growing demand for the programmes and activities offered by Ehsan’s day clubs. It will enable the centre to accommodate a larger number of members and provide a wider range of social, cultural, recreational, awareness and sports programmes tailored to the interests of older women.
The expanded club includes additional spaces designed to meet the needs of older people, helping strengthen social interaction and communication among members and encouraging their active participation in activities and programmes within a safe and stimulating environment that takes into account their comfort and privacy.
Ehsan said the new season of its day clubs will feature further development and diversification of programmes, with a greater focus on incorporating members’ views and suggestions into the design of activities. The aim is to make the clubs vibrant social spaces that enhance quality of life and support the continued community participation of older people.
Manal bint Ahmed Al Mannai, Executive Director of the Center for Empowerment and Care of the Elderly (Ehsan), said the opening of the Al Wakrah Club expansion reflects the centre’s approach to developing the Ehsan day-club model.
“We are keen for Ehsan clubs to be more than just venues for activities. We want them to be vibrant social spaces where older people feel a sense of belonging and appreciation, and where they can participate in programmes designed around their needs and interests,” she said.
She added that the expansion of the Al Wakrah Club responds to the strong demand it has witnessed and provides older women with greater space and more options as the new season begins, which the centre hopes will be more diverse and interactive.
Al Mannai said the centre would continue to develop its clubs and programmes and strengthen community partnerships that contribute to providing high-quality experiences and programmes for older people.
