DOHA: The Ministry of Interior (MoI) in collaboration with Project Stadia, affiliated with the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol), organised a workshop on countering cybercrimes on Sunday.

Over 40 trainees of various ranks from the Criminal Investigation and Economic and Cyber Crimes Combating departments participated in the workshop.

With the attendance of several international experts, the workshop discusses an array of critical topics, including financial crimes, currency and ticket counterfeiting, infringements on intellectual property and cybercrimes, as well as the operation of criminal networks and organised crime.

The Assistant Director of the Economic and Cyber Crimes Combating Department, Maj. Eng. Madawi Saeed Al Qahtani, pointed out that the workshop comes in recognition of the importance of sharing knowledge, persistent training, refining investigators' skills and building their capacities through exploring the best practices in the techniques of interrogation, including the modern techniques pursued by criminals, in addition to discussing the potential challenges and putting forward new solutions.

He also stated that the workshop aims to strengthen efforts to protect public security and safety, as well as to increase collaboration with international institutions to determine the best practices for dealing with crimes associated with major events and the mechanisms for dealing with them.

For his part, Senior Manager of Interpol's Project Stadia Falah Al Dosari hailed the constructive cooperation between Interpol and Qatar, adding that the workshop discusses a myriad of protection methods against cybercrimes, noting that the participating experts are working in this field on a daily basis.

He emphasized the importance of sharing experiences and information in securing mega sporting events, especially the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, and future events such as the 2024 Olympics or the 2026 World Cup hosted by America, Canada, and Mexico.

Project Stadia is a Qatari project started in 2012 in collaboration with Interpol for the sake of assisting the member countries in the organization to set police and security measures to be enforced within the framework of the preparation for mega sporting events.
