DOHA: Minister of Economy and Commerce H E Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani met yesterday with President and CEO of US Chamber of Commerce, Thomas Donohue, and the accompanying delegation, currently visiting Qatar.

The meeting discussed preparations for the second phase of Qatar’s economic tour of the United States. They also reviewed the economic, trade and investment relations between the State of Qatar and the United States and the means to develop and enhance them, in addition to discussing the positive results of the first phase of the State of Qatar’s economic tour, which began in the United States last April.

The Minister of Economy and Commerce held a working dinner in honor of the US delegation, where the Minister welcomed the President of the US Chamber of Commerce and his accompanying delegation.

The Minister pointed to the close historical relations between the State of Qatar and the United States in all fields, especially as the United States is one of the most important trading partners of the State of Qatar around the world.

The Minister praised the visits of the US businessmen and companies on an annual basis to the Qatari market to get to explore it for investment. He said that these visits are an opportunity for the US side to see the investment opportunities available to Qatari businessmen who are also interested in investing and partnering with their counterparts in the United States. The Minister reviewed the Qatari economy’s advantages which have made the State of Qatar a leading investment destination, referring to the measures taken by the State to encourage and attract investments, including the foreign investment regulation law, which allows full foreign ownership of companies operating in the country and supports the entry of foreign investors to the Qatari market.

He added that the wise policies pursued by the State of Qatar have helped stimulate all sectors of the country to increase their productivity, which reflected positively on the national economy and achieved positive growth rates during the past year.

The Minister reviewed mechanisms to support joint investments and stimulate the private sector to establish innovative investment projects in key sectors that would serve the economic trends of both countries.
