DOHA: Saudi plastic artist Abdul Aziz bin Khalil Al Mubarazi Al Shuwaish has donated one of his works on Gulf heritage to Katara.
An artist and researcher specialised in heritage, Al Shuwaish has contributed to the documentation of several historical sites, folkloric handicrafts and customs in many areas in Saudi Arabia and the GCC. This was the second portrait the artist has presented to Katara.
Katara General Manager Dr Khaled bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti welcomed the artist and appreciated the artwork aimed at preserving the Gulf heritage through plastic art. He stressed that Katara  is always open not only to Qatari artists but also to artists from other Gulf States.
Dr Al Sulaiti emphasised the unified bonds that hold the GCC together especially those related to identity and heritage. For his part, the artist lauded the role of Katara in preserving Qatari and Gulf heritage and acknowledged the support and encouragement it offers to artists.
A multi-awarded artist, Al Shuwaish has participated in plastic art exhibitions and festivals within and outside Saudi Arabia. He has also launched several exhibitions, such as “My Country’s Legacy” and “Our Traditions” as well as publications, such as Pages from the Heritage, Ad-Derya, Qatar’s Heritage, Kuwait’s Heritage, and The Emirate’s Heritage. This is in addition to chairing the plastic art committee in the National Festival for Heritage and Culture (Al-Janadrya Festival) for five consecutive times.
