Dhaka: Bangladesh's cabinet has approved a new visa regime designed to ease foreign travel to and from the country, while seeking to draw investment, business and skilled labor, an official said on Tuesday.
The official, who requested to be anonymous, said the new policy expands the number of visa categories to 34 from 33 under the existing 2006 visa rules.
The policy seeks to promote tourism and hospitality, facilitate technology and knowledge transfer, maintain national security and diplomatic balance, and establish a modern, service-oriented immigration system, he added.
According to the official, the new policy also aims to streamline the visa process, cutting delays, tightening security and boosting flexibility.
