Doha: The Qatar Chess Association’s Summer Programme is currently underway at its training center, having begun on July 6 and continuing through July 31.
Held under the patronage of the Ministry of Sports and Youth, the program hosts 50 boys and girls daily from 10:00AM to 12:30PM, targeting children aged 6 to 12.
In addition to chess training, the program features a variety of educational workshops, including digital safety, recycling, handicrafts, and other engaging activities. These are organized in collaboration with several government entities such as the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, Qatar Scientific Club, Qatar Red Crescent, and Friends of the Environment Center.
Executive Director of the Qatar Chess Association, Hamad Al Tamimi, expressed his satisfaction with the strong turnout, emphasizing that the initiative aims to teach the fundamentals of chess and foster strategic thinking.
He noted that the Federation seeks to expand participation in the sport, identify new talent, and nurture young players through a structured training plan.
Al Tamimi added that the summer agenda also includes cultural, awareness, and recreational workshops designed to develop mental and athletic skills, while enhancing participants’ self-confidence.
The Federation has designed a four-week schedule for the program throughout July, with the aim of discovering and cultivating young chess talent.
