Friends of Environment Center launches summer programme to raise awareness

Doha, Qatar: The Friends of the Environment Center of the Ministry of Sports and Youth has launched a summer programme with a range of events, activities, as well as land and cruise tours to raise young people’s awareness on environment. 

The programme will run during the whole month of July.

Organised in a societal partnership with LuLu Hypermarket, Al-Hanzab Reserve, Alazem camp and Monoprix, the programme intends to raise young people’s awareness of the importance of conserving local environment through organising several training workshops on methods of agriculture, recycling, handcrafts and knowledge trips.

The launch of the programme featured a workshop on ideas from extra fabrics with the participation of girls and women, where they got familiarised with methods of utilising fabrics and manufacturing things that are beneficial to homes, ranging from table covers, to house decorations.

The centre is due to organise a workshop next Tuesday for the same category of females to raise their awareness on the importance of agriculture and methods of adorning home gardens with numerous beneficial plants.

The programme features land trip on July 14 to explore wildlife at Al-Hanzab Reserve, in pursuit of introducing the attendees to plants and wildlife in Qatar, including their role in preserving food chains and species that depend on these plants.

In addition, the center will organise a cruise tour for young people on July 19 to develop their awareness on the importance of preserving marine species and introduce the biodiversity Qatar, along with its efforts to nurture marine life and methods of preserving its species.

In August, the center is due to organise several events within the framework of its vision and objective to raise awareness on the importance of conserving environment and training on recycling processes.
