QNA

Geneva: The 110th session of the International Labour Conference in its 10th plenary session, chaired by the Minister of Labour H E Dr. Ali bin Smaikh Al Marri, adopted a historic resolution on the inclusion of a safe and healthy work environment within the framework of the International Labor Organization on the fundamental principles and rights at work.

The decision is one of the most prominent outcomes of the conference and a historic event for the International Labour Organization (ILO). The Conference also adopted, in the same session, the report of the General Discussion Committee on decent work and the social and solidarity economy.

Qatar welcomed the decision to include safe and healthy working conditions within the framework of the International Labour Organization regarding fundamental principles and rights at work. The Assistant Undersecretary for Labour Affairs, H E Mohamed Hassan Al Obaidly, expressed, in a speech at the session, the State of Qatar’s welcome for the adoption of this decision, stressing support for a statement Asia Pacific Group in this regard.

Al Obaidly extended the State of Qatar’s thanks to governments, business owners, and labor that worked on making the historic decision. He also thanked the general affairs committee for working on developing the agreement. He said that acknowledging vocational safety and health as a fifth category of the basic principles and rights of work reflects their importance and the commitment of the ILO to helping member states achieve that goal.

He concluded by reiterating the State of Qatar’s belief in the importance of providing safe and healthy working conditions and the contribution they can make to humanity and establishing inclusive and sustainable economic growth.

The Minister of Labor and Vice-President of the International Labor Conference Dr. Al Marri chaired the meetings of the fourth and seventh sessions of the conference, whose agenda included the submission and approval of the report of the financial Committee, and the discussion of the reports of the Director General and the Chairman of the Board of Directors.

The seventh session also discussed a number of important decisions regarding the financial report and audited consolidated financial statements for the year 2021, a decision on the schedule of contributions to the budget for the year 2023, and another on the formation of the Administrative Court of the International Labor Organization, as well as a decision regarding appointments to the Pension Committee for ILO employees.
