Dengue on the Rise in Karachi

KARACHI: The incidence of Dengue virus is on the rise in Sindh with 95% of the cases reported in Karachi. According to the Sindh Health Department data issued on Thursday, 51 cases of Dengue have been confirmed in the first 10 days of June alone.

According to the data no incidence of the virus has been recorded in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in 2015, while in Baluchistan 6 cases of dengue have been confirmed this year.

From the 457 cases reported in Pakistan this year, 451 have been reported in Sindh, of which 438 have been reported from Karachi. With an average of 20 new cases being reported each week, the number of patients could spike further with the advent of the monsoon rains.
