Athens--Athens shares closed with an 8.16-percent leap on Thursday, boosted by hopes that Greece could be close to a deal with its EU-IMF creditors on a rescue deal.
Banks were among the chief beneficiaries with gains of 17.51 percent.
The optimism came after Greece's Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras agreed with the leaders of France and Germany to intensify efforts for a bailout deal aimed at preventing Athens from defaulting.
A stock exchange spokesman said the showing was the best in four months.
The bourse had gained 11.27 percent on February 2, 7.98 percent on February 10 and 9.8 percent on February 24.
