Building permits rise by 42% to 988 in March

Doha: The number of building permits issued in March by municipalities in Qatar has increased by 42 percent to 988 from 697 in February, data released by the Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA) show.

The PSA in cooperation with the Ministry of Municipality released the 87th issue of the monthly Statistics of Building Permits and Building Completion Certificates issued by all municipalities in the country.

According to their geographical distribution, the municipality of Al Rayyan topped the list of municipalities with 243 building permits issued (25 percent of total issued permits), while the municipality of Al Doha came in second place with 231 permits (23 percent), followed by the municipalities of Al Wakrah with 214 permits (22 percent), and Al Da’ayen with 180 permits (18 percent). The rest of the municipalities were: Umm Slal with 56 permits (6 percent), Al Khor with 31 permits (3 percent), Al Sheehaniya with 17 permits (2 percent), and Al Shammal with 16 permits (2 percent).

In terms of type of permits issued, data indicated that the new building permits (residential and non-residential) constitute 55 percent (543 permits) of the total building permits issued in March, while the percentage of additions permits stood at 42 percent (414 permits), and finally fencing permits with 3 percent (31 permits).

In terms of new residential buildings permits data, villas topped the list, accounting for 79 percent (314 permits) of all new residential buildings permits, followed by dwellings of housing loans permits by 15 percent (58 permits) and apartments buildings by 5 percent (20 permits).

Also, commercial buildings were found to be in the forefront of non-residential buildings permits accounting for 75 percent (109 permits), followed by mosques with 10 percent (14 permits), and industrial buildings such as workshops and factories with 8 percent (12 certificates).

The increase in building permits issued was noted in most of the municipalities including Al Doha (94 percent), Al Rayyan (66 percent), Al Wakrah (30 percent), Al Da’ayen (19 percent), and Umm Slal (12 percent). On the other hand, a decrease was noted in the municipality of Al Khor (6 percent), while the municipalities of Al Shammal and Al Sheehaniya maintained the same number of issued permits.

 In terms of building completion certificates issued in March, Al Rayyan municipality topped the list of the municipalities with 99 certificates issued (23 percent of total issued certificates), while municipality of Al Wakrah came in second place with 92 certificates (22 percent), followed by municipalities of Al Da’ayen with 88 certificates (21 percent), and Al Doha with 77 certificates (18 percent). The rest of the municipalities were: Umm Slal with 47 certificates (11 percent), Al khor with 14 certificates (3 percent), Al Sheehaniya with 5 certificates (1 percent), and Al Shammal with 4 certificates (1 percent). 

In terms of type of certificates issued, data indicated that the new building completion certificates (residential and non-residential) constitute 82 percent (348 certificates) of the total building certificates issued in March, while the percentage of additions certificates constitute 18 percent (78 certificates).

In terms of new residential buildings completion certificates data, villas topped the list, accounting for 71 percent (197 certificates) of all new residential buildings completion certificates, followed by dwellings of housing loans certificates by 22 percent (60 certificates), and apartments buildings by 7 percent (19 certificates).

Also, commercial buildings were found to be in the forefront of non-residential buildings completion certificates accounting for 61 percent (43 certificates), followed by governmental buildings with 17 percent (12 certificates), and mosques with 10 percent (7 certificates).

Comparing the number of certificates issued in March, with those issued in the previous month, a general increase of 23 percent was noted. This increase was seen in most of the municipalities including Umm Slal (147 percent), Al Da’ayen (73 percent), Al Sheehaniya (67 percent), Al Rayyan (15 percent), Al Doha (13 percent), and Al Wakrah (1 percent), On the other hand, there was a clear decrease in the municipalities of Al Shammal (67 percent) and Al Khor 
(18 percent).
