DOHA: Qatar University’s College of Arts and Sciences (QU-CAS) has launched an International Science and Football Association event.
A press conference was held to announce the launch of the event  to be organised at QU on from March 19 to 25.
The 2016 edition of the event is for the first time gathering all the major sporting and science institutions in Qatar to deliver seven days of football and science. It is also for the first time that the event is being organised in an Arab country.
“We’re delighted to hold the interdisciplinary sporting and science event that engages key Qatar institutions and other partners across the globe.
“High-level academics, scientists guest speakers, medical specialists, world football coaches and fitness experts representing schools, technicians, football practitioners and local and overseas students will be invited to participate as well,” said Dr Eiman Mustafawi, Dean of the college.
A five-day Football Fitness Coaching Workshop will be held as part of the event to train candidates aiming to gain Professional Football Fitness Coaching Certificate.
Key world figures representing football schools will hold the course followed by a two-day conference.
The conference also features a ceremony to award three media figures for contributions to football-related coverage.
“We are pleased to offer three awards for written, audio and visual for 2015-16. Journalists, broadcasters and media specialists are invited to submit a production (written, audio and visual) performed in 2015-16.
“The work should have made a significant impact on readers, listeners or audience and should have marked the spirits by its content. The content of the production should be around football, preferably around the scientific, medical, technical, physical fitness aspects of football (or footballers) in Qatar,” said Dr Monèm Jemni, Professorial Chair, Sport Science Programme, Qatar Olympic Committee.
“The outputs including details of the applicants should be sent to Dr Monèm Jemn, Chair ISAFA in Qatar 2016, at m.jemni@qu.edu.qa no later than March 15. “A committee will review the submissions and select the winners. The ceremony will take place on March 18 at 7pm in Ibn Khaldoon Hall, QU where the winners will also be announced,” he said. The Peninsula
