Doha, Qatar: Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) hosted the Celebration of Life 2025, its annual Organ Donor Honoring Ceremony Wednesday in the presence of the Minister of Public Health, HE Mansoor bin Ebrahim Al Mahmoud and Managing Director of HMC, HE Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Suwaidi.
The Celebration of Life event honored 94 donors and donor families, presenting them with the prestigious Medal of Altruism, for their selfless contributions that have saved and transformed countless lives.
Organised by Hamad Medical Corporation's Qatar Organ Donation Center (HIBA), and the Qatar Center for Organ Transplantation (QCOT), in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health, the Celebration of Life 2025 provided an inspiring and emotionally meaningful experience for all attendees. This significant event underscored Qatar's commitment to promoting organ donation and honoring those who make second chances at life possible.
The ceremony also celebrated transplant recipients who chose to undergo their procedures within Qatar, reflecting the growing trust and confidence in the country's local transplantation services. HMC departments and programs were recognised for their outstanding achievements in organ donation and transplantation, honoring their clinical excellence and unwavering dedication to patient care.
This year's event featured the inauguration of the Walk of Hope Exhibition, a curated visual and narrative experience that highlighted the journeys, achievements, and profound human impact of Qatar's organ donation and transplantation programs.
The exhibition brought together stories of hope, generosity, resilience, and medical excellence, showcasing the contributions of donors, deceased donor families, transplant recipients, and the multidisciplinary teams who support them.
The number of organ donors in 2025 was 94. This included 42 living kidney donors, five living liver donors, and 26 bone marrow donors, while the number of deceased donors totaled 21. During the same period, the number of organ recipients totaled 132, including 62 kidney transplants, 10 liver transplants, 59 bone marrow transplants, and one heart transplant.
2025 saw the highest number of patients chose local transplant surgery this year, reaffirming confidence in Qatar's transplantation services. Milestones and clinical achievements of organ donation and transplantation programs were showcased, highlighting the commitment of teams and support staff to maintaining international standards of care.
