Doha: Old Doha Port is set to take centre stage this Qatar National Sports Day, transforming into a vibrant hub of health, fitness, and community activities.
Family members of all ages, and fitness enthusiasts are invited to take part in the celebrations, which will kick off early in the morning across the Port’s various open spaces.
This year’s celebration comes to life through Old Doha Port’s collaboration with key government entities, including the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Labour, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, and more.
The ministries will host engaging public activities in the Port’s Mina Parks, with activations running from 6am to 1pm. These events are open to all visitors and aim to inspire a spirit of togetherness and healthy competition through sports and highlight the importance of an active lifestyle.
Public sports activations will be held across Mina Park 1, Mina Park 2, and Mina Park 3. Each park will feature a range of games, sports challenges, and workshops designed to engage visitors of all ages.
Activities include “Pedal to Race”, “Giant Transport XO”, and numerous other interactive floor games. Visitors can also participate in basketball hoop challenges, football bowling, table tennis, air hockey, foosball, and inflatable obstacle courses.
Also, the open water area will host kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding from 9am to 1pm, open to both amateurs and professionals.
Four interactive workshops focused on transportation, sustainability, and sports will engage children and families through hands-on learning experiences.
A recovery station will provide facilities for public use, including ice baths and relaxation areas, to support muscle recovery and promote athletic wellness after physical exertion.
The Qatar Sailing & Rowing Federation will conduct training sessions for the national team in the open water area throughout the day, offering spectators a chance to observe elite athletes in action.
These diverse offerings underscore Old Doha Port’s dedication to creating a vibrant and inclusive environment for community engagement.
Reflecting on the day’s significance, Mohamed Abdulla Al Mulla, CEO of Old Doha Port, commented, “Our active participation in Qatar National Sports Day underscores the values we hold dear—building a strong community and utilizing available spaces to promote sports as a way of life and strengthen social connection. With 5 km of environmentally friendly Tartan running tracks, another 5km of cycling paths, and over 250,000 square meters of lush green space, Old Doha Port is uniquely positioned to host such impactful events. We take pride in providing a space where families and individuals can come together to embrace wellness and active lifestylesby utilizing the parks’ infrastructure and available fitness equipment.”
