Ambassador values EAQC role in enhancing Qatar-Australia relations

Doha, Qatar: Ambassador of Australia to Qatar H E Shane Flanagan has valued the role of Engineers Australia Qatar Chapter (EAQC) in enhancing the bilateral relations between Qatar and Australia.

He highlighted the strong bilateral relationship between Qatar and Australia, emphasising the vital role engineering professionals play in strengthening this bond. The Ambassador was speaking at Annual Gala Dinner of EAQC on December 5 2024, at the iconic Fairmont Ballroom.

Flanagan highlighted how collaborative efforts between the two nations in infrastructure, innovation, and technology contribute to sustainable development and shared prosperity.

The Ambassador also commended EAQC for its dedication to fostering professional development and creating platforms for knowledge exchange, underscoring its importance in supporting the engineering community’s growth in Qatar.

The event brought together over 350 guests, including distinguished industry leaders, engineering professionals, and esteemed partners, to commemorate a year of achievements and contributions to the engineering community. The evening commenced with the recitation of holy Qur’an, followed by the Qatar and Australian national anthems, symbolising the cultural and professional ties between the two nations.

The programme included welcome messages from Romilly Madew and Raj Aseervatham, the CEO & President of Engineers Australia, and Lia Finocchiaro, the Chief Minister of Australia’s Northern Territory who addressed the attendees via video.

The Presidential Address was delivered by EAQC President  Eng. Asif Rahmany who highlighted the Chapter’s milestones and shared a vision for the future, focusing on advancing sustainability and innovation in engineering. The event featured an insightful presentation titled “Leveraging AI for Maximizing QatarEnergy LNG” by Ahmad Abdul-Sattar Ahmed.

The presentation delved into the transformative potential of artificial intelligence in optimizing LNG operations, aligning with the broader themes of innovation and sustainability discussed throughout the evening.

A dynamic panel discussion, moderated by Sabeena, brought together leading experts from diverse sectors. The panelists included Shaikha Athba Al Thani, Mohamed Mohsen of ECG, Jennifer Stables of AECOM, and Ziad Yehya of Qatar Energy LNG.

The discussion covered key industry topics such as sustainability, technological innovation, and the evolving role of engineering in addressing global challenges. The interactive format encouraged a vibrant exchange of ideas, providing attendees with valuable insights into the future of the engineering profession.

The session concluded with an engaging Q&A segment, allowing attendees to directly interact with the panelists and delve deeper into the topics discussed. Fellowship and Chartership recognitions were presented to deserving members, and sponsors and local volunteering organizations were acknowledged for their invaluable contributions. Chief guests, speakers, sponsors and panelists were honored with mementoes in appreciation of their participation. The evening was impressively conducted by Master of Ceremony Zorica Zeremski.
