The Doha College Key Stage 2 choir, a total of 57 students aged seven to eleven from both campuses, performed to a packed out crowd within the St Regis Lobby.
The Primary students performed nine songs including the classics ‘jingle bells’ and ‘we wish you a Merry Christmas’.
They were accompanied on the piano from music teacher Alison Keane and conducted by Rachel Lund and Laura Wells. Three talented students, Mia Rouse and Sofia Arif, both Year 5 and Alicia Field from Year 6, were given solos to sing, which they delivered competently and accurately.
Gregory Generet, a professional singer from New York City who regularly performs at the St Regis Jazz, hosted the evening and even accompanied the students with an improvised version of the famous Jjingle Bells.’ He was extremely impressed with the Doha College students, “This evening surpassed anything I could have ever expected. There was a great excited crowd and the Doha College students were just phenomenal. We did a surprise improvisation of ‘Jingle Bells’ and they handled it superbly. I jumped at the opportunity to host this event tonight because for me this is my career and it was an honour to share it with these students as they remind me of how my career started.”
Christine Walker, Head of Doha College Primary, stated: “We were delighted to be asked to perform at the St Regis Hotel again this year for their ‘Tree Lighting.’ The children thoroughly enjoyed the occasion – giving them a chance to showcase their musical talents and growing confidence and success. This is due to the commitment of the choir members and the very able direction of Keane and Lund, our two dedicated music specialists. The choir members are a credit to themselves, to their families and to the whole Doha College community and were very popular with their audience judging from the large crowd that gathered at the St Regis.”
Keane said: “We were delighted and honoured to be asked to perform by the St Regis. All our students were extremely excited! I was very proud of each and every child that took part. Their performances were incredible and they are all a credit to Doha College.”
