New York: The UN Security Council will convene an emergency session on Wednesday to discuss Israel's strikes on a residential compound in Doha that targeted members of Hamas's political bureau, at the request of Algeria and Pakistan.

According to UN diplomatic sources, Council members are expected to receive a briefing from senior UN Secretariat officials on the latest developments and the seriousness of the Israeli escalation.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned the Israeli attack on Qatar as a "flagrant violation" of the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity, praising Qatar's "very positive role" in achieving a ceasefire in Gaza and facilitating the release of hostages.

He stressed that all parties must focus on achieving a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, "not destroying it."

Qatar's Ministry of Interior announced on Tuesday that three people were martyred in the attack, including a member of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) and Humam Khalil Al Hayya, son of Hamas Political Bureau chief Khalil Al Hayya. Several civilians were also reported injured.
