Senator Grace Poe-Llamanzares yesterday said she is now open to the passage of an anti-political dynasty law in the Philippines saying she believes it can help deter politicians and government officials from abusing their power.

(I think what is happening in our country is that many politicians have abused it. It would have been good if all of us have the right to choose the path we like),” Poe said.

Citing her experience with her family, she was glad her parents did not prod her to follower their footsteps and join show business. Her father, the late Fernando Poe Jr. and Susan Roces are both in the respectable actors in the entertainment industry.

(Not all parents have the same conscience, because others push their children to serve in government even though their not qualified. So I think we need to be a little strict),” she said.
Poe said she will take time to study the various anti-political dynasty bills pending in the Senate saying she is willing to push a version that would protect voters’ rights to choose their leaders but with some reasonable safeguards added into it.

“Even the President cannot just appoint a kin or relative to a certain level of consanguinity as added protection. Perhaps we could use it this way in terms of political dynasty so that there won’t be conflict of interest,” Poe said.
