The winter camping season, which will end on April 15, has recorded less number of violations this year compared to the previous seasons, said a senior official at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment.
“Campers must strictly comply with camping rules and remove their camps at all sites in the mentioned time, or the Ministry will remove them,” said Omar Salem Al Nuaimi, Director of Environmental Protection, Nature Reserves and Wildlife Department of the Ministry.
“Most of complaints by campers lodged with the ministry were about the space between camps as some were set up very close to each other. Also, sometimes the campers didn’t know the exact deadline to register for winter camps as several of them were travelling abroad,” he added.
Separately, with reference to the ministry’s initiative to plant maximum number of five locally important trees such as Sidra, Al Ghaf, Al Gharat, Al Nuaimi said that 1,500 seedlings provided by the Public Parks Department have been distributed.
The ministry will take care of these trees after the end of this winter camping season and he requested the public to cooperate with the ministry to make the initiative successful.
The winter camping insurance amount of QR10,000 will be refunded electronically. They have to go to any governmental services centre with the personnel ID of the camper, bank certificate and the camping board to get the money refunded.
This winter camping season started on November 1 , 2016 and will continue until April 15, 2017 and for the first time campers were allowed to plant five local trees.
Last winter, the camping season was also successful and the number of violations decreased to ten and 60 warnings. The number of campers totaled 2,058 in more than 23 sites.” A total of 128 campers were blacklisted during the last two winter seasons for violating rules, 43 campers last season and 85 in the previous season - and now all those are barred from obtaining licence.
