DOHA: Journalists from 12 countries will feature at the the Sports Media Seminar to be held from April 14 to 18, Mohammed Al Malki (pictured), President of Qatar Sports Media Committee (QSMC) said yesterday.
The four-day seminar is being held by QSMC and in collaboration with Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC), Al Malki informed.
“There are number of key issues to be discussed. We are going to witness a massive increase in the number of sports events to be held in Doha in the next few years,” Al Malki explained.
“We need more hands to cover our sports events and seminars that QOC has planned in the coming years,” he added.
Those attending the Doha seminar include Mohammed Jamil Abdelkader, President of the Arab Union of Sports Press, Faisal Qenaei, Salim Al Habsi, Palestine’s Jibril Rajoub, Egypt’s Radwan Zayata, and Bahrain’s Mohammad Qassim.
The seminar is expected to attract 40 journalists representing Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraq, Oman, Libya, Algeria, Jordan, Palestine, Morocco, Tunisia and Sudan, Al Malki said.
Prominent sports journalists in Doha will also feature in the seminar to be held at Marriott Hotel.
“We look forward to welcoming our journalistic brethren from this region. It is an important gathering since we will be discussing ways and means to groom new breed of sports journalists,” Al Malki said. “We will be opening doors of opportunity for young people to show interest in sports journalism,” he said.
“We have experienced hands in Doha and elsewhere in the region and juniors can so learn so much from them,” Al Malki said.
“We have to understand that the sports calendar in Doha is getting busier with each passing year. From a few dozen events, we will be staging 99 events in the next 12 months. We need people to watch these events and people who would cover these events,” he added.
“I believe the participants at this seminar will benefit by being here,” Al Malki said. “We shall talk about all mediums of reporting for all mediums of information. It will be very interesting,” he added. “It will be interesting for our overseas friends to be here and see the kind of sports calendar we have in Doha. These are exciting times,” Al Malki said.
