Doha: Abdulaziz Abdulla won the second round of the Qatar National Road Racing Championship (QNRRC) held yesterday under the floodlights at Losail International Circuit.
The Qatari driver, who started in the pole position, managed to cross the checkered flag in first position after overcoming a tough challenge from Pavel Nedobity of Czech Republic.
“I am very happy to win this race and it was a very aggressive racing. The competition was of a very high level with the Lotus car of Pavel pushing me a lot of times during the race, but at the end, he (Nedobity) made some mistakes so I passed him and I won the race,” said Abdulla.
Second place finisher Nedobity expressed delight with his performance.
“It was my first race ever so I am very happy with my second position. It was a very exciting race and we were pushing each other very hard throughout the race. Abdulla was faster in the straight and I was faster at the corners and considering my first participation in a circuit I am very happy with my result,” said Nedobity.
Nedobity set up a quick pace and managed to overtake Abdulla during the first few laps of the race.
But Abdulla bounced back in the fourth lap to take the lead. The Porsche of Abdulla overtook the Lotus car of Pavel and the Qatari driver clinched on to the top spot till the end. Australian driver Talal Wehbe finished in the third position in the Open Class. Saif Al Naimi with a Suzuki Swift was the first driver in the Production class to cross the finishing line.
