Doha, Qatar: At precisely 5:46am today, February 10, 2029, a public safety alert warning of reduced visibility due to fog was sent out to all mobile phones across the country.

The message, issued in both Arabic and English, read, "Due to reduced visibility caused by fog in some areas of the country, motorists are advised to exercise extra caution and drive at appropriate speeds to ensure road safety."

The alert was issued during the early morning hours of Qatar National Sports Day, a day when residents, citizens and visitors head outdoors to participate in various sports events happening in and around the country.

Unlike the previous occassions, when such alerts were activated, it was unclear whether the message was issued by the National Command Center or the Ministry of Interior.

Meanwhile, the Qatar Meteorology Department on its X account at 5am today stated that mist to fog has been observed over some areas, causing low horizontal visibility less than 2km.

It also recorded the lowest temperature this morning as 12 °C in Al Ghuwayriyah, Al Shahaniyah, and Al Shehaimiya, while the capital Doha recorded 18°C.
