QOC Half Marathon 2026 gets underway at Lusail today, February 10, 2026.
Doha, Qatar: Qatar is marking National Sport Day (NSD) today with vibrant celebrations and widespread participation across the country, as government entities, sports clubs, educational institutions, and community organisations come together to promote physical activity and healthy living.
From early morning fitness sessions in public parks to organised sporting events at clubs and community facilities, the day reflects a nationwide commitment to making sport an essential part of daily life.
The annual occasion transforms public spaces into hubs of energy and interaction, drawing citizens and residents of all ages into a shared celebration of wellness and social engagement.
National Sport Day continues to serve as a key platform for reinforcing the values of teamwork, inclusivity, and active lifestyles, aligning with Qatar’s long-term vision of building a healthy, dynamic, and sustainable society.
To mark NSD, the Ministry of Municipality is encouraging residents to embrace an active lifestyle through a wide range of facilities, including 156 public parks, eight fully equipped public beaches, and five Fitness Box locations across the country. This initiative reflects the Ministry’s commitment to making sports and fitness accessible to everyone.
Residents can experience the thrill of sports in 156 public parks, featuring air-conditioned walking and jogging tracks, modern playgrounds, and free outdoor fitness equipment. From Umm Al Seneem to Rawdat Al Khail, these parks offer ideal spaces for families and individuals to begin their healthy journey.
The celebration also extends to eight fully equipped public beaches, each offering unique experiences such as swimming, seaside walks, and exciting beach sports.
Additionally, Fitness Box facilities at five locations, Al Rayyan, Al Matar, Al Luqtaifiya, Al Gharrafa, and Hazm Al Markhiya, offer smart outdoor gyms with the latest fitness technologies, available free of charge. These interactive gyms provide residents with modern options to stay active and healthy.
In celebration of the day, the Ministry of Sports and Youth has announced the successful completion of a major infrastructure development project involving the renovation and upgrading of 22 sports fields across Qatar, alongside the release of a comprehensive schedule of NSD activities organised by youth centres and sports clubs nationwide.
The initiative reflects the Ministry’s commitment to promoting physical activity and healthy lifestyles, in line with the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030.
The project focused on enhancing community sports infrastructure by upgrading facilities to meet international standards. One of the key components of the work was the comprehensive replacement of artificial turf with high-performance surfaces, ensuring safer and more professional environments for athletes and community users alike. These improvements aim to elevate the quality of local sports services and make modern facilities accessible within residential neighbourhoods.
The upgraded facilities have been strategically distributed to maximize community benefit. Seventeen of the renovated fields fall under the Al Furjan (neighbourhood) category and are now open for public use in several areas, including Al Khor, Madinat Khalifa, Umm Salal, Al Thumama, Al Hilal, and Al Aziziya. Additional neighbourhood fields were completed in Abu Hamour, Al Murra, Al Wakrah, Al Wukair, Al Mashaf, Ain Khaled, Al Sailiya, Nuaija (East and West), and Al Kharsaah.
In addition to neighbourhood facilities, the project included the renovation of three first-class club fields, namely Al Khor Club Field and Al Wakrah Club Fields 4 and 5. Two youth center fields at Al Thakhira Youth Center and Kaaban Youth Center were also modernised, further strengthening the infrastructure dedicated to youth development and sports participation.
Alongside the infrastructure upgrades, the Ministry has released a detailed schedule of National Sport Day activities organised by youth centers and sports clubs across the country. On February 9, the Simaisma and Al Daayen Girls Forum hosted activities at their youth center from 4:30pm to 7pm, while the Al Wakrah Sports Club Youth Department organised events at its headquarters starting at 4pm.
A wide range of programmes is scheduled for today (Tuesday). Morning activities include events hosted by the Al Khor Girls Center at Al Qarma Garden, a joint programme by the Simaisma and Al Daayen Youth Center and Lusail Sports Club at Al Egla Fields, and sessions organised by the Al Wakrah Girls Center at Al Wakrah Public Park for participants aged 15–18. Additional morning activities will be held by the Al Thakhira and Al Kaaban Youth Centers at Al Bayt Stadium Park.
Midday programmes will feature activities by the Al Kaaban Girls Forum at its sports hall, as well as events organised by Al Sadd Sports Club Youth Department for both boys and girls aged 15–18. The Barzan Youth and Girls Forums will convene at the Umm Salal SC auxiliary fields, while a joint event by the Al Jamiliya Youth Center and Al Sheehaniya Sports Club Youth Committee will take place at Al Sheehaniya Sports Club for participants aged 15–23.
These infrastructure enhancements and coordinated activities underscore the Ministry of Sports and Youth’s efforts to strengthen national sports facilities and expand community engagement. By providing world-class venues and inclusive programming, the Ministry aims to foster a vibrant and healthy society.
