The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) launched yesterday a three-day event of Al Kanar at Al Mazrouah Farm Yard in Umm Salal.

The aim of the event in which 15 farms are participating is to introduce the grafting of Sidra trees and display all Qatari agricultural products.

This is the first Kanar event this season, and from here the event will next week move to Al Khor and Dakira yard.

It will conclude in Al Wakrah vegetable yard, said Yusuf Khalid Al Khulaifi, Director of Agriculture Affairs at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment.

This event has two objectives — marketing the local produce of Al Kanar and attracting new customers to the farm yard markets, in addition to training farmers on inoculating Sidra trees, Al Khulaifi added.

The sidra tree is very common in Qatari culture and tradition, and has multiple uses including in manufacture of shampoos and soaps, in addition to its fruit being consumed.  Al Khulaifi inaugurated the event in presence of officials, representatives of farms and the public.
