Sydney - Sri Lanka have called up rookie right arm fast bowler Dushmantha Chameera as a replacement for injured Dhammika Prasad in their World Cup squad.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) approved the replacement on Tuesday after Prasad was forced to pull out after fracturing his hand while training on Saturday.

The 23-year-old Chameera's only ODI was against Sri Lanka in Wellington last month, in which he returned figures of two for 60.

Sri Lanka, the 1996 champions and runners-up in 2007 and 2011, are in Pool A of the World Cup along with co-hosts Australia and New Zealand, Bangladesh, England, Afghanistan and Scotland.

They play their opening match against New Zealand at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch on February 14.
