The induction ceremony of the new set of officers of United Filipino Organizations in Qatar (UFOQ), the umbrella organisation of more than 100 Filipino groups in Qatar was held last Friday at Qatar Foundation Community and Recreation Center.
The newly elected and appointed officers for 2014-2015 were sworn into office by Philippine Consul Gonaranao B Musor.
Welcoming the gathering, UFOQ Overall Chairman Frank Jamandre said UFOQ was launched in August last year to serve as an umbrella organisation to all accredited Filipino organisations in Qatar to provide mutual support and assistance to its organisational members for the betterment of all the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Qatar.
Jamandre said there are now 135 registered Filipino organisations in Qatar. In its effort to reach more OFWs, UFOQ has launched its website www.ufoq.org which provides information on the services of the Philippine government as well as those of the various Filipino community organisations, such as Philippine government agencies, Lingkod at Gabay Para sa OFWs. Downloadable consular and Philippine Overseas Labour Office forms and latest news and happenings in the Filipino community can also be accessed through the website.
Consul Musor thanked the UFOQ organization for welcoming him to Qatar and congratulated the new UFOQ officers for spreading the cultural values and history of the Philippines by becoming “global cultural ambassadors.”
