Doha, Qatar: The Qatar Scientific Club (QSC), an affiliate of the Ministry of Sports and Youth, has wrapped up its two-month summer camp 2023 held at the premises of QSC with the participation of over 1000 male and female students from various academic levels.

The camp featured a wide range of scientific programmes which attracted young people from various age groups, where the number of the programme’s beneficiaries increased this year by 200 percent compared to the activities of 2022.

The activities included a series of challenge programmes for the age groups from 12 to 18 years with the purpose of increasing the skills of critical thinking, enhancing students personal skills, promoting the concept of collective action, solving problems, in addition to empowering Qatari young people from a variety of life skills. The challenge competition was held among the participants through designing and carrying out an engineering tower utilizing 3D media and technologies.

For the first time, QSC carried out a special programme for females in auto mechanics, along with another programme related to automotive computer programming and electric car programming. The club also organized a similar programme in auto mechanics during which the participants got familiarized with the mechanism of electric car operation, function of each part of car engine, controlling unit and other key functions and types of transformers in cars.

The camp also presented a workshop on how to create 3D Model in Mastercam, where the participants got familiarized with the methods of utilizing digital manufacturing devices including CNC and various engineering models.

The camp featured an outstanding programme under the theme of engineer of the future that was held in coordination with the Ministry of Sports and Youth, alongside Ministry of Education and Higher Education and was carried out in collaboration with the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) and Orphans Care Center (Dreama) with the engagement of 30 male and female students during which 20 scientific workshops and training programs were presented in a variety of engineering specialties on Ashghal sites and QSC’s laboratories and workshops.

The programmes and workshops resulted in implementing models for four engineering projects, namely AI-powered Garden, internet of things and their entire management, water recycling plant, vehicle causeway and boat crossing, which primarily focus on engineering fundamentals in building bridges and adopting possible solutions, as per nature of lands, places and purpose of the bridge, as well as the sustainable building project that offers innovative solutions, as well as the process of addressing the environmental challenges facing Qatar and the region.

In addition, the camp included a programme of designing a prototype of rocket propelled with multiple trajectories, principles of engineering design of fuselage, impactful forces and utilization of wind in generating a variety of energies.

Head of the promising innovator committee at QSC Fatima Al Mohannadi said QSC’s summer camp sought to assist the participants in developing and upgrading their skills through leveraging cutting-edge devices and programmes.
