DOHA: The much awaited collaboration between UK brand, Art On Fashion, and Qatari artist Noor Abuissa was launched recently at the Fire Station, Artist in Residence with a collection of scarves called ‘For the Love Of Colour’.
The event was supported by the Fire Station, Salam Studio and Stores and The Creative Union, a popular branding agency in Doha. The Fire Station, which houses a new art gallery as well as residencies given to Qatari and international artists, was transformed with canopies and installations of beautiful colourful scarves. One of the first guests was US Ambassador Dana Shell Smith who is a great supporter of the arts and had followed Noor’s recent exhibition at Blue Fig in Amman, Jordan.
Other notable guests included Salam Stores chairman Issa Abu Issa, celebrated artist Amal Al Aathem, who is also collaborating with Art On Fashion, and popular social media influencers were also present. Noor’s art portrays Islamic geometric design infused with bright colours to give it a contemporary feel. Noor said, “It has been an exciting journey transforming my art into wearable pieces and being supported by such iconic landmarks as the Fire Station Artist in Residence and Salam Stores, as well as the up and coming branding agency The Creative Union.”
Celine Magill, Creative Director of Art On Fashion said, “I am delighted to have launched our collaboration at this amazing venue and with the support we have received. The scarves are an easy way to take a piece of art with you on your travels and they are also a thoughtful gift. I am really pleased to see Noor’s art expressed in this new form.”
