DOHA: Qatar Charity (QC) has introduced an innovative method to receive donations during Ramadan to support the needy.
QC has set up booths in public places where people can charge their electronic devices such as mobile phones and tablets for a fee of QR10. Money raised will be spent on charitable projects. The initiative ‘‘Charity Charger’ has been initially introduced at shopping malls. The second phase of the project will be implemented in other public places like hospitals, clinics, and restaurants after Ramadan. The booths are equipped with tools to charge any type of electronic devices.
A refundable QR50 will be charged, which can be collected with the electronic device after charging.
Abdullah Al Doosari, Executive Director, Donation Projects, QC, said: “The initiative is a new and effective method by which people can make donations to the needy. Many people will need to charge their electronic devices while they are out, through the initiative people will also benefit and get an opportunity to donate.”
QC has also set up booths to collect clothes, shoes and other items.
There are several methods being introduced by QC for people to donate such as through its QC website, via the mobile phone app ‘Best of my Work’, Star donation points (Ooredoo) and an ongoing campaign under which people can send text messages to 92060 for monthly, daily or weekly subscriptions. QC’s Ramadan projects for this year is valued at QR35m to benefit over 1.7 million people in Qatar and abroad.
Around 450,000 people in Qatar will benefit from the campaign, representing an increase of 120,000 from last year. The total number of beneficiaries in Qatar and abroad has increased by more than 600,000. The Peninsula
