Doha: Lulu Hypermarket Qatar and Seashore Recycling organised several events in various Lulu Stores across Qatar to mark the World Environment Day 2022, which falls on June 5 every year.

The aim of the event is to raise awareness of protecting the environment, promoting sustainable practices, and cultivating the culture of recycling among the public.

The celebration marking the occasion involved a beach clean-up at Sealine Beach, Mesaied, collecting about 150kg of trash and out of which the recyclable material was recycled by Seashore Recycling and Sustainability. The event itself was completely sustainable by being a zero-waste event, by using reusable bags and gloves for collection and other materials being recycled.

Part of the celebrations were the Doha Recycling Tour, which aimed completely at cultivating the culture of recycling among the public. Seashore Recycling Collection truck visited different Lulu Stores at a pre-scheduled time for people to drop their recyclable at the nearest Lulu Store.

The public was allowed to drop any kind of recyclable material which included paper, plastics, metals, E-waste and batteries for recycling.

Lulu Hypermarket Qatar and Seashore Recycling also organised an upcycling workshop for kids at the Lulu Hypermarket Barwa City.

The workshop aimed at making artwork from waste material, and showing the kids that sustainability begins from them and their family.

World Environment Day 2022 is the biggest international day for the environment. Led by the Nairobi-based United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), and held annually since 1973, it has grown to be the largest global platform for environmental outreach. It is celebrated by millions of people across the world.

World Environment Day 2022 is hosted by Sweden. “Only One Earth” is the campaign slogan, with the focus on “Living Sustainably in Harmony with Nature”.
