Clark International Airport, Pampanga — Officials of the Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC) disclosed yesterday that the airport is now on heightened alert against the deadly Middle East Respiratory Syndrome-Corona virus (MERS-Cov) following an outbreak in South Korea.

“We have already installed a 24-hour high-tech monitoring and tracking machine device to detect any deadly virus and to monitor passengers particularly those coming from the affected countries, including the Middle East,’’ said CIAC President and CEO Emigdio “Dino” Tanjuatco.

“We are always on guard 24/7. We just intensify our efforts when there are situations like this to ensure passengers are free from any fatal viruses acquired from other countries,’’ he added.

CIAC Vice President for operations Reynaldo Catacutan said he already instructed airport monitoring personnel to double their efforts in tracking and monitoring of passengers especially those who came from suspected MERS-affected areas.

He also instructed airport security to tighten security and be vigilant in inspecting passengers entering the airport. The quarantine section has been alerted to be always ready for emergency cases.
