Doha: The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs will hold a symposium on ‘Zakat and Development’ at the Sheikh Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud Islamic Cultural Center today.
The symposium is an extension of the series of cultural and intellectual seminars held by the Ministry’s Department of Islamic Research and Studies in celebration of the 14th Sheikh Ali bin Abdullah Al Thani International Endowment Prize.
Yemeni researcher Fayez Yahya Shubail, who won the prize, will participate in the symposium to speak about his research findings, ideas and visions, along with Head of the Department of Fiqh and Usul al Fiqh at the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies at Qatar University, Dr. Salih Qadir Al Zanki.
In a statement, the Department of Islamic Research and Studies said that the theme of the prize in its fifteenth year is: ‘Social solidarity and its role in achieving societal security’.
It covers a number of axes, the most important of which are: types of social solidarity, its dimensions, fields, resources and expenditures; means and obstacles to the implementation of those means and the solutions proposed for them between reality and hope; the legal rooting of social solidarity and community security; and contemporary calamities and their impact on achieving social solidarity, community security and legal solutions to them.
