DOHA: Sixteen demolition and maintenance decisions have been issued in the last four months in Qatar by the Buildings Demolition and Maintenance Committee at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment.
Out the 16 decisions 13 were for demolitions and 3 for maintenance. They received total of 41 applications. The others are still under process.
The buildings are marked for demolition due to its dilapidated condition as they pose threat to neighbours, people on the street and also to neighbouring buildings.
The committee is responsible to study the condition of the buildings which require renovation or demolition. By analyzing the building the committee will decide whether partial/complete demolition or renovation is required.
The committee set up through a ministerial decision No. 88 of 2006 is responsible for taking decisions on ramshackle buildings and those which require urgent maintenance after such cases are referred to it by the municipalities concerned.
It includes in its membership a number of municipalities’ directors and departments at the ministry of Municipality and Environment, in addition to representative from Civil Defense Department at the Ministry of Interior.
