Doha, Qatar: Qatar Media Corporation (QMC) in coordination with Gulf Radio & TV yesterday organised a symposium on “The Role of Environmental Media in Sustainable Development” at Cultural Zone of Expo 2023 Doha. The symposium stressed the necessity of integrating efforts between the media and concerned parties to achieve the goals of sustainable development.
In its recommendations, the symposium emphasised the importance of improving communication and encouraging initiatives that reflect commitment to social and environmental responsibility, supporting Gulf environmental media networks and associations, and pushing them to establish partnerships with regional and global environmental media institutions.
It also recommended educating citizens about the importance of rationalizing consumption, saving water and energy, and transferring knowledge to citizens and residents, so that they are able to keep up with events.
The symposium called for attention to holding conferences, seminars and workshops concerned with Gulf and global environmental laws and agreements, and sustainable development goals, and supporting the media specialised in the environmental field, and making it an essential partner in achieving sustainable development goals. In this regard, Chairman of the Scientific and Cultural Committee for Expo 2023 Doha Dr. Mohammed Saif Al Kuwari spoke about the role of Gulf environmental media in achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
He reviewed the definitions of environmental media, the history of its emergence, the most important environmental issues and problems that the world suffers from, and its relationship to sustainable development goals.
Al Kuwari also reviewed a group of organizations that contributed to the emergence of environmental awareness. He noted the role of environmental media in developing awareness of environmental issues among individuals and officials, guiding their behavior and evaluating their efforts to reach a state of full awareness of these issues and the importance of interacting with them.
For his part, Director General of Gulf Radio and Television Majri bin Mubarak Al Qahtani expressed his happiness in participating in this workshop, which has transformed from local to global, because the environment has an important role that is reflected in its strong presence in all international exhibitions and conferences and the focus on its pressing issues currently and in the future.
He praised the important role of the GCC countries in all fields and levels related to preserving the environment and its biodiversity, and the efforts of the Qatar Media Corporation and its continuous cooperation to enhance environmental awareness locally, regionally and internationally.
