Doha: Abdulrahman Al Malki and Ahmed Mohammed Al Tamimi will lead Qatar’s challenge in the qualifying rounds of the 13th Qatar Classic Squash Championship which begins here today at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex.
The duo comprise 32 players who are vying for the eight places in the main draw of the PSA World Series event organised by Qatar Squash Federation (QSF).
Besides the two local lads, players from Kuwait, Malaysia, Pakistan, India, Denmark, England, France, Australia, Finland, Egypt, Holland, United States of America and Scotland will be seen in action at the two days of qualifying.
Addressing a press conference here yesterday, QSF officials informed that this year’s Qatar Classic will be an all-men’s event.
“We have been hosting both the men’s and women’s events together for the last 12 years. This year we at Qatar Squash Federation thought of giving a break to the WSA event. Hopefully, we will host the WSA event next year,” said QSF Technical Secretary Gamal Rasmi.
Since its inception in 2001 the Qatar Classic had hosted both the PSA and WSA events together.
Last year Doha hosted the Men’s World Open and thus the Qatar Classic makes its return.
