Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Municipality has launched a new community initiative that offers citizens free insect- and mosquito-repellent seedlings to promote public health, encourage green living, and beautify Qatar’s neighbourhoods.
Under the initiative, every Qatari citizen is entitled to receive four complimentary seedlings selected from aromatic and pest-deterring plants, said the Ministry on its X account. The programme provides a natural and safe way to protect homes and gardens from insects while supporting the national drive to expand green spaces in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.
The seedlings provide several important benefits. They naturally protect against pests, help improve public health by reducing the spread of insects, and add aesthetic beauty to homes and gardens. In addition, the initiative contributes to Qatar’s broader environmental goals by increasing green coverage across the country.
Citizens can collect their four free seedlings by visiting the Al Matar Nursery, open daily from 4:30am to 11:15am, and presenting their QID.
The Ministry is offering several plants known for their beauty and insect-repelling properties, including Basil (Ocimum basilicum), Lemon Grass / Citronella Grass (Cymbopogon cotratus), Neem (Azadirachta indica), and Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis).
Citizens who wish to obtain more than the four complimentary seedlings can purchase additional plants at nominal prices through the Ministry’s official website or the ‘Oun’ mobile application.
The Ministry of Municipality encouraged everyone to take part in the initiative, highlighting its dual benefits for public health and environmental sustainability.
