Minister of State for Foreign Trade meets with heads of international economic organisations in Geneva

Doha, Qatar: Minister of State for Foreign Trade, H E Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Sayed, held meetings with the heads of several international organisations, where discussions focused on ways to strengthen cooperation in the fields of trade and investment, as well as a number of economic and trade issues of mutual interest.

The meetings began with H E Pedro Manuel Moreno, Acting Secretary-General and Deputy Secretary-General of UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD), where both sides discussed preparations for the State of Qatar’s hosting of the World Investment Forum, which will take place in Doha from October 25 to 27, 2026. The meeting also addressed developments in the global economy and a number of topics related to trade, investment, and development.

He also met with H E Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO). The meeting discussed the latest developments in international trade, the challenges facing the multilateral trading system, the importance of strengthening the flow of trade, and support for ongoing reforms at the WTO. Both sides also reviewed the strength and resilience of Qatar’s economy under current conditions, as well as its ability to continue growing and further consolidate its position as a trusted trade and investment partner at the regional and international levels.

In another meeting, H E met with H E Daren Tang, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), where they discussed ways to strengthen cooperation and exchanged views on a number of topics of mutual interest.

The Minister of State for Foreign Trade also participated in the high-level ministerial dialogue of the World Intellectual Property Organization. In his remarks, he affirmed that the State of Qatar continues to develop an integrated intellectual property ecosystem within the framework of Qatar National Vision 2030, in a way that strengthens foreign trade and the knowledge-based economy, while supporting innovation and international cooperation.
