Jerusalem: A Palestinian woman who tried to stab an Israeli soldier in the occupied West Bank was shot and wounded, the Israeli military said on Tuesday.

"Reacting to the immediate danger, a soldier shot the assailant and arrested her," the military said of the attack at Gitai Avisar in the northern West Bank.

A deadly cycle of violence has rocked the Palestinian territories, Israel and Jerusalem since the start of October last year.

It has cost the lives of at least 214 Palestinians, 34 Israelis, two Americans, an Eritrean and a Sudanese, according to an AFP count.

After a relative lull, on Thursday a 19-year-old Palestinian stabbed to death a US-Israeli girl, 13, in her bedroom at the Kiryat Arba Jewish settlement near the flashpoint Palestinian city of Hebron.

A day later, an Israeli was killed when his car was fired on by suspected Palestinian gunmen south of Hebron.

On the Friday, a female relative of the Kiryat Arba killer was herself shot dead after drawing a knife on Israeli forces in Hebron.
