Doha: As part of a close Qatari-Arab coordination, the Ministry of Labour organised an expanded meeting in Geneva for Their Excellencies the Arab Ministers of Labour and delegations yesterday on the sidelines of the 110th session of the International Labour Conference (ILC) 2022.
Upon an invitation of Minister of Labour H E Dr. Ali bin Samikh Al Marri the convention was held as Qatar is the coordinator of Arab States Group in the International Labour Organization. The meeting aimed to discuss topics related to the agenda of the 110th session of the International Labour Conference and to unify the Arab positions before ILO.
The meeting was attended by Head of the Permanent Delegation of the League of Arab States in Geneva and President of the Arab Labour Organization.
The Minister of Labour highlighted the importance of joint coordination between Arab states to unify positions among international organizations, stressing that unifying the Arab position before ILO is a momentous step to proceed to the forthcoming stage.
He noted that Qatar as the coordinator of the Arab Group at the International Labour Organization will strive to enhance joint coordination and unify positions, noting that meetings and intensive deliberations will be organized to foster consultation and discussions on labour market issues in Arab states.
The Minister stressed the need to consolidate efforts to achieve economic recovery and promote decent work to ensure a decent life and respect for Arab human rights, noting that the harsh conditions experienced by Palestinian workers require everyone to continue to compel the Israeli occupation to observe the obligations in accordance with international law.
During the meeting, Their Excellencies reviewed ways to enhance joint Arab action in the Labour market and to benefit from the successful experiences and expertise of the Arab countries. Many issues of common interest in the Arab region were also discussed, especially after the crisis of the COVID-19 outbreak and its fallouts on the global Labour market.
They appreciated the importance of continuing Arab coordination through intensifying meetings during the coming period, stressing that the State of Qatar was able to achieve a myriad of legislation reforms and labour laws during the past years.
During the meeting, Their Excellencies underlined the need to unify the position of Arab countries at the International Labour Organization in the interest of all parties to the Labour market in the Arab region.
They appreciated the importance of continuing Arab coordination through increasing the meeting recurrence during the coming period, stressing that the State of Qatar was able to achieve a number of reforms to labour legislation and laws during the past years.
