DOHA: Sasol and Friends of the Environment Centre received an award from Minister of Environment
H E Ahmed Amer Mohamed Al Humaidi for their contribution to the preservation of Qatar’s environmental resources by developing the one-of-its-kind smartphone app, Qatar e-Nature.
Jack Saba, General Manager, Public Affairs, received the award on behalf of Sasol Qatar during a seminar at Sharq Village & Spa in Doha.
The seminar addressed issues of maintaining plant biodiversity and the importance of setting environmental priorities for joint action and cooperation in line with Qatar National Vision 2030 and National Development Strategy.
Saba led a session on Sasol’s activities to promote environmental and educational awareness through the use of app by students attending Independent and private schools. “This year, thanks to support from Supreme Education Council (SEC), we reached all schools in Qatar and had more than 15,000 participants in the annual Qatar e-Nature school contest.
“We hope we can continue to inspire youth to learn more about nature in Qatar,” said Dr Saif Al Hajari, Chairman, Friends of the Environment Centre.
Marjo Louw, President, Sasol Qatar, said, “Sasol Qatar is proud of achievements and success Qatar e-Nature has made.
“The initiative has taken awareness of the environment in Qatar to new heights in a fun and entertaining way. We thank Dr Al Hajari and SEC for support.” Launched in December 2013, the app highlights plant, bird, insect, mammal and reptile life.
Sasol created the app as part of its corporate social responsibility programme in partnership with Friends of the Environment Centre. The app, which features content in Arabic and English, aims to support objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030 to promote sustainable development by contributing towards an environmentally aware population. The user-friendly app is available for free download on Apple App Store, Google Play store for Android, and Windows Phone Store. A web version of the app (www.enature.qa) is also available for desktop access.
