More than 1,100 people have signed up to be part of the Metro Manila Rescue Volunteer Corps (MMRVC) that will help in rescue work of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) in the event of a major earthquake in the metropolis.
Some of them have started undergoing a three-day crash course on earthquake response and rescue training.
“The training include extrication of bodies, equip them with more knowledge on collapsed structure,” said MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino, during the agency’s radio program over DZBB.
The MMDA chairman said the new volunteers will add to the agency’s existing roster of rescue members that will take part in the planned metrowide earthquake drill on July 30.
“Those who will undergo training will be given a free identification card, certificate, and T-shirt,” Tolentino said.
