Doha: After lifting the Qatar Cup, Al Duhail players have said they will continue to work hard to win more titles this season and make fans happy.
The Red Knights defeated Al Sadd in the final 2-0 after second half goals from Michael Olunga and Ferjani Sassi at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium on Thursday night.
It was Al Duhail’s second title triumph in 10 days as they also claimed the Ooredoo Cup after beating Umm Salal in the final.
With back-to-back titles, Al Duhail are on course for a quadruple this season as they are leading the QNB Stars League (QSL) standings and will play the Amir Cup quarter-final against Al Sailiya on Monday.
“This is the second championship victory for the team during the season, after Ooredoo Cup, and we will continue to work with full force in various tournaments to win more titles,” said Al Duhail captain Almoez Ali.
Olunga congratulated the management, players and fans.
“The Qatar Cup 2023 coronation came at the right time and after the team won the Ooredoo Cup. This would give us more motivation in the remaining tournaments of the season.”
Defender Ruben Semedo said Al Duhail would not stop after winning their second title.
“Now our focus is on the rest of the championships – QNB Stars League and Amir Cup. Our goal is to win more titles and help the team continue its journey forward,” he said.
Goalkeeper Salah Zakaria said:“I congratulate the club’s management and all fans on this achievement. We thank the fans who came to the stadium and supported the team.
All our focus was on achieving victory and the team played with a high and collective spirit. That was what we needed because we know the strengths of Al Sadd, who had distinguished players.”
Midfielder Ismail Mohammed said Al Duhail were deserving winners of the final.
“The players presented a good match and appeared at a distinguished level, and we won a well-deserved title after a good performance. I hope this tournament will be a motivation for us in the rest of the season’s championships – the league and Amir Cup.”
Midfielder Ferjani Sassi said: “ I am very happy to win this championship and be crowned with Al Duhail. We must continue to work to complete the season with full force and win more championships. Our fans were wonderful and their big presence was a motivation for the team, and we hope to always make them happy in various tournaments.”
